There is an ache I hear in nearly every session, retreat, and conversation I hold space for. It’s often unspoken, or disguised as burnout, relationship dissatisfaction, or general restlessness. But underneath, it’s something deeper:
We don’t know who we are.
We know what roles we play. We know what’s expected of us. We know how to show up for others, how to caretake, how to be productive, competent, even “empowered.” But we’ve been so busy trying to become palatable, useful, or safe that we’ve lost touch with the part of us that simply is, the Self beneath the performance.
This is not a character flaw. It’s not evidence that you’re broken or behind. It’s the natural outcome of living in a culture that rewards disconnection.
